James is a children’s author and illustrator. His debut picture book, The Last Viking, was written by Norman Jorgensen and published in 2011 by Fremantle Press. It has since been shortlisted for five awards, including the 2012 Children’s Book Council of Australia awards, the 2012 WA Young Readers’ Book Awards and the 2012 Adelaide Festival Awards for Literature. His second book, In The Lion, will be released by Walker Books in 2012. He loves presenting workshops for schools and libraries, he’s a big fan of yoga, and he has far too many books in his bedside reading pile.

Wendy grew up on a dairy farm in the beautiful town of Denmark, South Western Australia and from an early age developed a keen interest in animals and the outdoors. After graduating with a BA in Art & Design from Curtin University in 1982 (majoring in ceramics), Wendy based herself and her business ‘Stunned Emu Designs’ in Fremantle, Western Australia.
Early in 2010, Wendy opened her own Gallery in South Terrace, Fremantle which has enabled her to extend her range even further and to display more of her original artwork including seascapes and landscapes.
The enthusiasm of children for her designs prompted Wendy to write her first children’s picture book, ‘Where’s Stripey?’ with ‘Stripey’ a baby emu as the main character. Having written, illustrated and self published the book to great acclaim, it won two awards including the prestigious ‘Western Australia Premier’s Book Award, Children’s Section’ Award.
Stripey was such a popular character that as well as producing a Stripey plush toy, Wendy produced another book ‘Scrambled egg’ again featuring Stripey on another adventure. This book was shortlisted for the WA Premier’s awards. Children and adults alike eagerly awaited the third Stripey book ‘Invisible Me’ which was finally published in October 2011.

Samantha is a writer and illustrator who likes the deep, dark quiet of the night. She loves the velvet time around midnight when the best and strangest ideas creep out and become just a little bit real. That is the time when her sketchbook fills up with the weirdest and most magical stories and sketches.
She loves to work with her trusty 2b pencil and little tubes of luscious, intensely coloured gouache. She still pokes her tongue out when she is concentrating really hard. Sam most likes to paint monsters and zombies and strange fanciful creatures - the types you’d like to share a cupcake with. Her work has appeared on posters, in exhibitions and even on shoes. She recently created The Hairy Tales of Heroboy collectible card game for The State Library of Western Australia.

Jason Chatfield is a cartoonist and stand-up comedian based in Melbourne. Born in Perth, he is the fifth cartoonist in 89 years to produce the iconic Australian comic strip, “Ginger Meggs” which appears daily in over 120 newspapers in 34 countries around the world.Chatfield is also an editorial cartoonist for both print and online media each week, as well as one of Australia’s premiere live/spot caricaturist at corporate events. His work has been published in several books in Australia and Overseas. He is the President of the Australian Cartoonists’ Association (Est. 1924) and was nominated for 2008 Australian Cartoonist of the Year and Comic Strip Cartoonist of the Year in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Around Australia, illustrators were brought together to create pictures, and work and play. Each gathering was supplied with a delicious array of art materials, and invited to explore a surprise theme word visually.
